An L-desk is not one measurement, it is four: a length and a depth for each run.

• Long run: 58 to 66 inches — the primary work surface, same depths as a standard desk: 24 to 26 inches.
• Return (the short leg): 42 to 48 inches — the secondary surface, usually a little shallower at 20 to 24 inches.
• Overall footprint: about 60 by 60 inches in the corner, though the two runs rarely match.
• Height: 29 to 30 inches, the same near-universal desk height as any other.

Measure two walls, not one

A rectangular desk answers to one wall. An L-desk answers to two, and the trap is the corner: the runs overlap in a corner square, so you cannot just add the two lengths. Measure each wall's clear run separately, from the corner outward, and subtract about an inch of breathing room at each far end. If a doorway, radiator, or window trim interrupts either wall inside the run's length, that wall sets your limit, not the desk's advertised size.

Which way does the L face

L-desks are handed. A left-return desk puts the short leg on your left; a right-return on your right. Many are reversible, but built-in hutches, drawer pedestals, and cable grommets often are not, so confirm the orientation against the corner you are filling before you buy. The chair still needs its clearance

The seat lives in the crook of the L, and it needs the same 36 to 42 inches to roll back and stand that any desk chair needs — measured from whichever run you face most. Because an L wraps you on two sides, that clearance also has to clear the other run's edge as the chair swings. Leave room to turn, not just to push straight back.
